Independent but still connected - when competitors share knowledge!
“We are all fighting for the top 100 places in the Conde Nast Gold List, but we often struggled to provide the training resources needed to get to that level of service”, says Tom Fringe, one of the leaders of the pack. “But in fact, we must understand that we are not competing against another boutique hotel, but instead against some of the large 200+ property operators. They have training resources we can only dream of.” Perhaps not? Some of these smart individualists have joined forces and share training resources via TraLib online learning. Some modules are customized for each property such as room descriptions, some are central resources such cocktail knowledge, food skills and concierge sequences. The training might be written for one hotel, but is shared across the platform to benefit all operators. “We don’t compete for the same guest, as all individually owned properties are in completely different locations and have their own unique style. We have noticed though, that rather then loosing staff to the big hotel companies, we now share some staff members across different continents in our network”.
