Animated infographics for learning complex themes or just kids play?

If you think about highly complex themes such as economics or corporate culture you would think that each one of these themes will need a PhD to explain, teach and summarise. Though there are tools that can make learning faster and easier. The questions always arise if you need to have detailed knowledge about a specific theme or just a broad overview of what a particular piece of content is all about.

Ha-Joon Chang took on this challenge and explained in his title “Economics is for Everyone” in a short eleven-minute clip a highly complex theme with cognitive infographics.

"Cognitive is a term that describes the process people use for remembering, reasoning, understanding, and using judgment; the ability to think and make sense out of what is seen, heard, felt, and experienced, in order to solve problems. Our work brings content to life and can turn even the most head-scratchingly complex material into something cogent, memorable and fun. We are a storytelling and animation studio located five minutes from the sea in Folkestone, Kent, on the English coast. Our mission is to help people to discover and learn new stuff with the help of storytelling, drawing and animation.” Writes www.wearecognitive.com, who created this video.

Dough, things don't need to be so highly complex. The Strategy and Business Magazin came up with an animated infographic on “What is corporate culture?” in a clip that barely exceeds 90 seconds. The video uses a combination of animated infographics as well as filmed interviews with famous leadership experts such as Jon Katzenbach. Strategy-business.com/10PrinciplesCulture has created a series of videos based on this concept.

So, is it a kids play or a serious tool for learning? I would say it can't be more serious!
